Samsung unveils mockup video of 'Galaxy Z Fold 7'… thinner, lighter, and larger
Samsung Electronics is heightening expectations with the release of a mockup video that provides a glimpse of the design of its next-generation foldable smartphone, the 'Galaxy Z Fold 7', set to be unveiled next month.
On the 20th (local time), major foreign media outlets, including the U.S. IT site PhoneArena, reported this news by citing the mockup video of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 released on the YouTube channel 'TheSINZA'.

The video is based on a model made in China, compiled by aggregating leaked information and rumors thus far. In the video, the actual sizes of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 can be compared side by side, with the noticeable aspect being that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is significantly thinner than its predecessor.
Notably, the thickness is estimated to be 9mm, which is more than 3mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 12.1mm. Foreign media outlets have reported that “while implementing a more sophisticated design than the previous model, usability is expected to be maintained.”
Screen size increases, while weight decreases… camera features punch-hole design
According to the mockup, the main display of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is approximately 8.2 inches, larger than the 7.6 inches of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Samsung has emphasized that this year's foldable new product is “the lightest ever,” suggesting a significant decrease in weight as well.
Changes in camera design are also anticipated. The video shows that a punch-hole camera will be mounted on the main display. This is interpreted as a choice to improve photo quality in comparison to the under-display camera (UDC) used in the previous model. Experts analyze that “considering the quality limitations of UDC, the return to a standard camera is a decision made with consumer satisfaction in mind.”

Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is reported to be equipped with Qualcomm's latest chipset 'Snapdragon 8 Elite', used in the Galaxy S25 series. It is expected to offer an improved experience in terms of both performance and power efficiency compared to its predecessor.
“Fold SE users may not feel a significant upgrade”
PhoneArena pointed out that “the specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are similar to those of the 'Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (SE)' which was released last year limited to areas like Korea.” In particular, the changes in screen size, the introduction of the punch-hole camera, and the reduction in thickness are evaluated to have little differentiation from the SE model.
Accordingly, there are views that for consumers already using the SE model, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might not represent a significant upgrade. However, some analyses suggest that if the global release market expands, it could be seen as a notable advancement for general consumers who have not been exposed to the SE.
