Regarding the promotion of Im Eun-jeong as the head of the Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office… President Lee’s closest ally says, “Let’s go for the chief prosecutor.”

Lee Hae-sik, a member of the National Assembly, congratulated Im Eun-jung on her promotion to head of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, stating, "Let’s go for the Chief of Public Prosecution."

Lee Hae-sik, who served as the chief secretary for former President Lee Jae-myung's presidential campaign, publicly shared a congratulatory message for Im Eun-jung, the newly appointed chief prosecutor, on his Facebook page.

On the afternoon of the 1st, around 10:17 PM, Lee Hae-sik shared a photo taken with the new chief prosecutor, saying, “The Political and Administrative Division of the National Planning Commission has struck gold.”

Notably, Lee Hae-sik and Chief Prosecutor Im Eun-jung have been colleagues building a blueprint for prosecutorial reform within the Political and Administrative Division of the National Planning Commission.

Lee Hae-sik currently serves as the head of the Political and Administrative Division, while Im Eun-jung has been active as a specialist member of the same division.

Im Eun-jung has emerged as a key figure in the push for prosecutorial reform.

In his Facebook post, Lee Hae-sik expressed mixed feelings of joy and regret, saying, "You have worked hard as a specialist member of our division to draft the outline for prosecutorial reform, and now it seems we must let you go."

He referred to Im Eun-jung as "the prosecutor who has faced persecution since the Park Geun-hye administration," expressing anticipation for her new role.

Importantly, Lee Hae-sik hinted at the direction of prosecutorial reform under the Lee Jae-myung administration with the message, "Let’s aim for the Chief of Public Prosecution after the separation of investigation and prosecution. Let's do it!" This statement is linked to the expected policy of separating investigation and prosecution that the current government is likely to pursue, suggesting that the prosecutorial organization may be reorganized into major crime investigation agencies, prosecution agencies, and public prosecution offices in the future.

Im Eun-jung was promoted from head prosecutor of the important economic crime investigation unit at the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office to head of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office.

Having long advocated for internal reform within the prosecution, she has garnered expectations from many supporters that she should take on key legal positions such as Prosecutor General or Minister of Justice.

In fact, numerous citizens recommended her as Prosecutor General during the national recommendation process for high-ranking civil service candidates conducted shortly after the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung government.

Lee Hae-sik’s congratulatory message can be interpreted as suggesting a future possibility of Im Eun-jung being appointed as Chief of Public Prosecution, going beyond mere congratulations.

Should such a appointment materialize, the Facebook post from that day could be seen as a kind of 'prophecy.'
