"50% Reduction in Property Tax for Multi-Child Households, First Implemented in Seo-gu, Daejeon

Seo-gu, Daejeon is providing an extraordinary tax benefit for multi-child households with two or more children.

Seo-gu announced on the 14th that it will implement a property tax reduction system that halves property taxes for multi-child households starting from the regular property tax in July this year (the first property tax for housing).

The eligible beneficiaries for this benefit are households that are registered as residents in Seo-gu as of the taxable standard date of June 1 and have given birth to children resulting in two or more children since January 1.

Households that own one residential property with a publicly assessed price of up to 900 million KRW will receive a 50% reduction in property tax, including the urban area portion.

The Impact of Support for Multi-Child Households and Future Plans

According to statistics from Seo-gu, a total of 946 newborns were recorded in the region from January 1 to June 1.

Among these, 184 households were identified as eligible for property tax reduction. The tax benefits resulting from the implementation of this reduction system are estimated to total approximately 20 million KRW.

To commemorate the implementation of this system, Seo-gu sent congratulatory cards to the eligible multi-child households, informing them that they are the first beneficiaries of this policy along with a message celebrating their childbirth. Such thoughtful consideration is expected to bring a small joy to families with newborns.

Seo Cheol-mo, the head of Seo-gu Office, stated, "This system, introduced for the first time in the country, is being evaluated as a leading policy to resolve the issue of low birth rates, and several local governments are currently benchmarking it." He added, "We will continue to develop good policies to create an environment that is conducive to childbirth and raising children." This policy is drawing attention as an active effort by local governments to address the serious problem of low birth rates.
