President Lee exits the Democratic Party group chat despite requests to “please don’t leave.”

Immediately after the presidential inauguration, resignation from National Assembly… Exiting with a group message

President Lee Jae-myung officially resigned from his position as a member of the National Assembly right after being elected president, and subsequently vacated his place in the group Telegram chat of Democratic Party lawmakers.

This move is interpreted as a measure to preemptively block any controversies regarding interference in party affairs due to his presidential role.

According to political sources, President Lee left a message in the group Telegram chat where Democratic Party lawmakers are participating on the 6th, saying, "I hope to see you often. Let's build a new Republic of Korea," before exiting. In response, it is reported that Democratic Party lawmakers replied with messages such as "You’ve worked hard" and "Thank you for your efforts."

Thanking remarks in the regional committee room… Some requested him to "stay"

Earlier, on the 5th, President Lee also left a note in another Telegram chat with around 200 regional committee chairs. In this message, he conveyed thanks for the election period, effectively bidding farewell.

During this process, some individuals reportedly urged him to "stay in the chat and listen to opinions" to dissuade his departure. However, it seems that President Lee decided to voluntarily exit the group out of concern that it could influence party affairs.

"An appropriate decision to dispel misunderstandings," evaluations say

One Democratic Party lawmaker commented, "While staying in the Telegram chat would have been acceptable, it is natural for him to leave now that he has become president," adding, "It seems to be a judgment to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings."

Meanwhile, right after being elected president, President Lee submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly and stepped down from his role as a National Assembly member.

He then began preparations for his inauguration while also gradually distancing himself from official party channels. This is interpreted as a willingness to focus on his role as the head of the executive branch rather than that of a party leader.
