Repeated Vandalism Reports in Daegu… Ongoing CCTV Analysis
In Daegu, a series of incidents involving the destruction of election campaign materials for Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, has prompted police investigation.
According to the Democratic Party of Korea's Daegu branch, around 1:30 PM on the 17th, election posters for candidate Lee Jae-myung affixed in Jilseong-dong, Buk-gu, were found damaged by a sharp object. The posters reportedly showed clear signs of tearing and scratching.
On the previous day, at around 6:30 PM on the 16th, there was also a report of vandalism against one of Lee's posters installed on the exterior wall of Namsan Elementary School in Jung-gu. The police immediately dispatched personnel to assess the situation and secured nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
On the 15th, two promotional materials for candidate Lee, including a banner near Dongdaegu Station and campaign material affixed to a Democratic Party candidate's vehicle in Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu, were damaged.

Suspect Identified as Potential 'Middle School Student' in Jeonju
A similar incident occurred in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province. According to the Jeonju Wansan Police Station, a report was received on the 15th that the election poster for candidate Lee Jae-myung was vandalized on the exterior wall of an apartment in Seosin-dong, Wansan-gu.
The police promptly responded and verified the damaged poster, analyzing nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to identify a suspect believed to be a middle school student.
According to Article 240 of the Public Official Election Act, those who vandalize election posters may face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 4 million won. However, the degree of punishment may vary for minors based on their criminal responsibility and age.
