"Fishing for views is a daily occurrence… It's astonishing that they feel no shame." (Professor Seo Kyung-deok)
The invitation sent by Zhangjiajie City in China to the production team of Netflix's "D.P." has stirred controversy.
On the 4th, Professor Seo Kyung-deok from Sungshin Women's University pointed out, "Zhangjiajie City is drawing criticism. They are directly promoting themselves by leveraging the global popularity of the drama."
They utilized "D.P." for local promotion. In fact, Zhangjiajie City referenced the line from the character Aesoon (played by Moon So-ri), saying "let's go to Zhangjiajie to see the autumn leaves."
They expressed gratitude to the production team and actors of "D.P." by telling them, "Thank you for mentioning Zhangjiajie in the drama. No need to wait for autumn, just depart."
However, in China, Netflix is not currently available. Professor Seo remarked, "It's as if they openly admitted to watching secretly."
He added, "This has become a routine occurrence, just like during 'Squid Game' Season 2. What's more astonishing is that they feel no shame about it."
He even lamented that a local Chinese authority used the illegally viewed footage for external promotion. Professor Seo urged, "Our government must take action now."
Meanwhile, "D.P." is a work that unfolds the life of Aesoon (played by IU) and Kwan-sik (played by Park Bo-gum) through the four seasons.
