Police raid office of Hwang Kyo-ahn’s ‘Anti-Corruption Organization for Election Fraud’… suspicion of election interference

Former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn's Allegations of Election Interference, Police Begin Forced Investigation

The police have initiated a forced investigation into the 'Corruption Prevention Committee for Election Fraud,' established by former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.

On the 20th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crimes Investigation Team conducted a search and seizure operation at the office of the Corruption Prevention Committee for Election Fraud, located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in order to secure related internal materials.

This investigation follows a report made by the National Election Commission, which filed a complaint against former Prime Minister Hwang and the committee on May 27, citing violations of the Public Official Election Act. The allegations brought forth by the Commission include the establishment of a similar committee, interference with voting and ballot counting.

The National Election Commission revealed in a press release that they filed a complaint with the police against Hwang Kyo-ahn and the organization for violating the Public Official Election Act, stating, "The organization that claims election fraud continuously obstructs the proper election duties of the Commission and intimidates local officials appointed as advance voting managers."

Hwang Kyo-ahn's Reaction and Claims

On the day of the search and seizure, former Prime Minister Hwang expressed his stance through a YouTube broadcast.

He stated, "They are blocking the search and seizure until my lawyer arrives," claiming, "A reckless investigation will take place under the pretext of an investigation into election fraud."

This aligns with Hwang's previous reactions at the time of the complaint. He had remarked, "I will closely monitor whether our sovereignty is being infringed upon; what exactly is the problem with that?" and added, "In this presidential election as well, a lot of evidence of election fraud has emerged."
