The police have changed the investigation team handling the lawsuit filed by YouTuber Tzuyang (Park Jung-won, 28).
On the morning of the 21st, the police held a regular press conference at the Naejadong office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where they conducted a Q&A session regarding ongoing major cases. The case involving Tzuyang filing charges against Kim Se-uy, the representative of Garo-Seo Research Institute (Gaseyeon), on five counts including intimidation, was mentioned. The police stated, "The overall case has been reassigned."
This is a measure aimed at ensuring the fairness and efficiency of the investigation. They emphasized, "We have reallocated the case and changed the investigators to conduct the investigation fairly and swiftly."
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is currently investigating a total of four cases related to Tzuyang. Among these, three cases have been assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division 2 as part of Tzuyang's complaint, while the investigation into the complaint is handled by the Investigation Division 2.
Regarding Tzuyang's refusal to undergo questioning as a complainant and her request to avoid the investigators, the police stated, "We regret that controversies have arisen between both parties." They added, "Concerns were raised about the fairness of the investigation, and to alleviate those, we have reallocated and changed the investigators to comprehensively assess the case."
However, they avoided specific comments on what "misunderstandings" occurred between Tzuyang and the police investigators. The police remarked, "That's difficult to discuss."
Tzuyang appeared at the Gangnam Police Station on the 16th but refused to proceed with questioning after about 40 minutes, reportedly because of concerns over whether the investigation could be conducted fairly.
Tzuyang's legal representative, attorney Kim Tae-yeon, stated, "We felt that the investigators were leaning toward the suspect (Kim Se-uy)," and announced a request to avoid the investigators.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office previously requested supplementary investigations from the police on the 14th of last month, accepting Tzuyang's objection to the Gangnam Police Station's decision not to prosecute Kim Se-uy. The Gangnam Police Station dismissed and cleared Kim Se-uy of five charges (creating fear under the Information and Communications Network Act, coercion, intimidation, violations of the Stalking Punishment Act, and leaking confidential information).
Meanwhile, Tzuyang is in the process of filing a lawsuit for damages against the YouTuber who intimidated her, as well as the creators of the 'Korean Cattle Disease' and 'manipulation identification' content. The second hearing is scheduled for the 12th of next month.
