Former President Yoon Suk-yeol's Father's Death 2nd Anniversary, Professor Lee Cheol-woo's Memorial Post Draws Attention
Lee Cheol-woo, a professor at Yonsei University Law School, conveyed his condolences on social media ahead of the 2nd anniversary of the passing of the late Professor Yoon Gi-jung, the father of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Professor Lee is known as the son of the Chairman of the Korea Liberation Association, Lee Jong-chan, and a longtime friend of former President Yoon. His memorial post has garnered attention as it indirectly reflects the current situation of the former President and his wife, who are under special investigation.

On the 11th, Professor Lee posted a photo of the late Professor Yoon Gi-jung’s funeral hall on his Facebook, stating, "August 15 marks the 2nd anniversary since his passing," and added that he paid his respects at the grave where neither his son nor daughter-in-law could attend.
The late Professor Yoon Gi-jung passed away from old-age-related illnesses on August 15, 2023, and this upcoming 15th will mark exactly two years since his death. It is interpreted that Professor Lee's post subtly expresses the inability of former President Yoon and his wife Kim Kun-hee to visit the grave of the father due to them being subjects of the ongoing special investigation.
Special Circumstances of the Former Presidential Couple Due to Special Investigation
Currently, the special investigation team has applied charges against Kim Kun-hee for violations of the Capital Markets Act, Political Funds Act, and the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes Act concerning bribery, resulting in a request for an arrest warrant.

The substantive review of Kim's arrest warrant is scheduled to take place on August 12 at the Seoul Central District Court. If Kim is arrested, it will be the first case in the history of the Republic of Korea where a former presidential couple is imprisoned simultaneously.
Former President Yoon Suk-yeol has already been arrested and indicted on charges of obstruction of special public duty and abuse of power, and is currently detained at the Seoul Detention Center.
Professor Lee Cheol-woo and former President Yoon Suk-yeol have been friends for nearly 60 years. Additionally, Professor Lee's father, Lee Jong-chan, and the late Professor Yoon Gi-jung also had a long-standing relationship, and it is reported that the two families have maintained a close bond for over 50 years.
Amidst this deep connection, Professor Lee Cheol-woo's memorial post goes beyond simply honoring the deceased, reflecting current political situations and the personal difficulties faced by the former President's family, thereby attracting significant interest from many.
