“Pitiful in His Whining”… A ‘Prison Senior’ Takes a Jab at Yoon

Yoon Suk-yeol's Prison Environment Controversy, Song Young-gil Rebuts "Receiving Special Treatment"

Song Young-gil, the leader of the Sonamu Party, strongly criticized the remarks of lawyer Shin Pyeong, who expressed that Yoon Suk-yeol, the former president, is in a "living hell" after recently visiting him in the Seoul Detention Center.

On the 28th, in a post on his Facebook, Representative Song pointed out Yoon's detention life, stating, "It is pathetic to see someone who has caused countless people to shed tears due to illegal investigations and abuse of prosecutorial power can't endure a few months of detention and is whining."

He mentioned, "I had to endure extreme cold and heat living in the third floor, which was the hottest and coldest, for 11 months," thus highlighting that former President Yoon's treatment is better than that of ordinary inmates.

In particular, he rebutted Yoon's claim that he "cannot engage in any intellectual activities other than reading the Bible," stating that this is not true.

Song explained that at the detention center, "I could read three different newspapers, watch TV, and could bring in and read as many books as I wanted, claiming that he had read over 300 books," emphasizing that it is a matter of willpower.

Additionally, regarding Shin's request for U.S. intervention, he dismissed it as "absurd" and countered, "This is a facility providing privileges akin to heaven for a rebel leader."

Previously, on the 27th, lawyer Shin, after meeting Yoon in his capacity as his legal counsel, claimed that "(former President Yoon) is sitting hunched over while eating, trapped in a confined cell in a miserable situation," alleging human rights violations.

On the 28th, he reiterated criticism, stating, "When a former president is imprisoned, it is customary to provide air conditioning and other amenities," asserting that the 'principles of imprisonment' do not apply to former President Yoon.

However, contrary to these claims, it was confirmed that rooms used by former presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye during their imprisonment also lacked air conditioning. It was reported that Yoon's solitary confinement room is slightly smaller, about 2 pyeong, than that of former President Park, due to the increased number of inmates in the Seoul Detention Center over time.
