The Disney+ series 'Goldland' (written by Hwang Jo-yoon, directed by Kim Sung-hoon) revealed its casting lineup on the 10th. Park Bo-young, Kim Sung-cheol, Lee Hyun-wook, Kim Hee-won, Moon Jung-hee, and Lee Kwang-soo will star in the series.
'Goldland' is a crime thriller. It tells the story of a woman who becomes embroiled in chaos after receiving smuggled gold bars and is consumed by her desire to claim them for herself.
Park Bo-young plays Kim Hee-joo, an international airport security officer who unintentionally gets caught up in an illegal gold smuggling case. She raises the tension at the center of the storyline.
She is venturing into a new genre. She explained, "The process of Hee-joo, who seems uninterested in gold bars, being captivated by human nature and desire will be portrayed attractively."
Kim Sung-cheol plays Jang Wook, a low-level member of a loan shark organization. He intentionally approaches Hee-joo upon realizing that she possesses the smuggled goods the organization is pursuing. He behaves as if he could manipulate the gold bars at any moment.
He raises expectations for their acting chemistry with Park Bo-young. Kim Sung-cheol stated, "Wook is a character with many points of challenge," and shared his anticipation for the chemistry they will create together with Hee-joo.
Lee Hyun-wook portrays co-pilot Lee Do-kyung, who becomes involved in the incident as Hee-joo's boyfriend. His ambiguous feelings toward Hee-joo are expected to be a key point of interest.
He mentioned, "After reading the script with fresh material, I had many expectations," and added, "Overseas location shooting is also planned. We will be able to present a variety of visual attractions."
In addition, Kim Hee-won will play Detective Kim Jin-man from the Gangnam Police Station. Moon Jung-hee will portray Hee-joo’s mother, Yeo Seon-ok, while Lee Kwang-soo takes on the role of Director Park, a member of the hotel casino's underground organization.
The direction is by Kim Sung-hoon, known for his genre directing skills through films like 'Confidential Assignment' and dramas like 'History of a Loser.' The script is written by Hwang Jo-yoon, who also worked on the movie 'Oldboy.'
Meanwhile, 'Goldland' is set to premiere on Disney+ next year.
