A 20-year-old sentenced to prison for stealing hundreds of millions from a friend's parents' home
A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after breaking into a friend's home and stealing valuables worth hundreds of millions of won, having learned from the friend that "his parents keep cash at home."
According to the legal community on the 20th, Judge Kim Ji-young of the 6th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court sentenced Mr. A (21) to 2 years in prison for charges of theft and trespassing.

Mr. A is accused of secretly breaking into his friend's house and stealing cash and valuables.
In July 2021, Mr. A unlawfully entered the home of his friend B's parents in Seo-gu, Daejeon, and stole 80 million won kept in a travel bag.
It was revealed that he stole a total of 243 million won in cash and 12 gold bars weighing 100 grams each in three separate incidents, including up until December 2022.

Motive and Method of Crime

The investigation revealed that Mr. A obtained information from his friend B that "his parents keep cash at home," and broke into the residence using a previously known password.
Mr. A stated that his motive for the crime was to purchase luxury vehicles and designer clothing.
Notably, last February, while serving in the military, Mr. A used a vacation for new recruits to break into another friend's house with the same method, continuing his trespassing activities.

Judge Kim Ji-young indicated in the ruling that "Mr. A broke into his friend's house multiple times and stole a large sum, and considering that he did not properly return the stolen amounts and instead used the money to purchase luxury clothing, the circumstances and progression of the crime reflect a high degree of blameworthiness."
