The movie 'Opposition' (directed by Hwang Byeong-guk) has achieved the highest box office score among this year's releases. 'Opposition' premiered on the 16th of last month. According to the Integrated Network of Ticketing for Cinemas operated by the Korean Film Council, as of 12 AM on the 13th, it has attracted a cumulative audience of 3,015,384.
It surpassed 'Mickey 17' (directed by Bong Joon-ho), which garnered attention as Bong Joon-ho's new film after approximately 5 years and 8 months since 'Parasite', drawing in 2.96 million viewers.
It has overcome the limitations of being rated 'restricted to minors' and maintains its position at the top of the box office even in its fifth week. It is expected to continue its successful run until 'Mission: Impossible' (directed by Christopher McQuarrie).
'Opposition' is a crime action film. The story unfolds as a drug planner broker in the Republic of Korea gets entangled with a prosecutor aiming for greater heights and a detective who is dedicated to eradicating crime.
Kang Ha-neul plays the role of Lee Kang-soo from the opposition party. Yoo Hae-jin portrays the ambitious prosecutor Koo Kwan-hee. Park Hae-joon takes on the role of the passionate detective Oh Sang-jae. It has received praise likening it to 'The Drug King Insider'.
Meanwhile, the 'Opposition' team is hosting a special discount event for audiences from the 14th to the 16th. A stage greeting will be held at Lotte Cinema World Tower and other locations on the 18th.
