The movie "The Opposition" (Director Hwang Byung-guk) is poised for box office success. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office statistics, "The Opposition" has attracted a cumulative audience of 1,048,190 as of the 23rd. It reached the 1 million viewer mark just 8 days after its release.
It has broken the highest box office record for a Korean film rated for audiences aged 18 and over since the COVID-19 pandemic. It overwhelmingly surpassed the record held by "Hidden Face," which had the highest score during the same period with 1,014,867 viewers.
Since its premiere, it has maintained the number one spot at the box office for 8 consecutive days. Despite the onslaught of new releases such as "Minecraft: The Movie," "Holy Night: Demon Hunters," and "Breakthrough," it remains unshaken. It also holds the top spot in overall ticket reservations.
Notably, it has achieved significant results in April, typically considered a slow season for theaters. Real audience reviews have been highly positive. In its second week of release, the CGV Golden Egg Index and Lotte Cinema audience ratings soared to 97% and 9.4 points, respectively.
"The Opposition" is a crime action film. It depicts the intertwining stories of a broker planning the drug trade in the Republic of Korea, a prosecutor seeking advancement, and a detective dedicated to eradicating drug crime, each with their own objectives.
This weekend, in its second week, "The Opposition" will have stage greetings in Seoul, meeting with audiences. It is expected to continue its steady box office race towards surpassing 2 million viewers.
