
Netflix's series 'Squid Game' won six awards at the American pop culture awards ceremony.
On the 19th (Korean time), the 'Gold Derby TV Awards' announced the winners and nominated works on its official website, showcasing 'Squid Game' as a major award winner, proving its prestige.
First, 'Squid Game' was nominated for the Best Drama Series. Actor Lee Jung-jae, who played the protagonist 'Seong Gi-hun,' was nominated for the 'Best Actor in a Drama' award.
Supporting awards were won by actress Kang Ae-sim (Jang Geum-ja) for Best Supporting Actress, actor Choi Seung-hyun (Thanos) for Best Supporting Actor, and Gong Yoo for Best Guest Appearance (Ddak Ji Man). The series also received the Ensemble of the Year award.
This awards ceremony was held for content released in 2024-2025. 'Squid Game' was successful with both Season 2 (December 2024) and Season 3 (June 2025) following its initial release.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his gratitude upon receiving the awards. "I sincerely thank the people involved and the fans who gave this wonderful award to 'Squid Game' and the cast," he said.
He added, "Sometimes there were disappointments when my (winning) expectations were wrong. It seems like the disappointments were compensated by this wonderful award. I will pay more attention to Gold Derby from now on."
The Gold Derby Awards are an awards ceremony specializing in pop culture, covering 30 categories, including drama, variety shows, animation, and film. This year marks its 22nd edition.
The 'Squid Game' series has created a global phenomenon, sweeping major American awards, including the 74th Emmy Awards, and proving the global influence of K-content.
