“Oh, I can’t hit this, but just wait until I get discharged”… The final days of a soldier who threatened a non-commissioned officer.

Threats from Superior Continued After Discharge, Soldier Sentenced to Probation

A soldier, who unleashed curses and threats in anger at a non-commissioned officer's criticism, could not escape legal judgment even after discharge.

On the 4th, Judge Park Dong-wook of the Chuncheon District Court sentenced A (23), who was indicted for threatening a superior, to six months in prison with a two-year probation.

The incident occurred in March of last year at a military barracks dining area in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. A was criticized by non-commissioned officer B regarding issues related to missed meals and proxy signatures.

In a fit of rage, A hurled curses at B and attempted to intimidate him by clenching his fists. He even audaciously remarked, "I can't hit you, but should I just kill you instead?" while swinging his arms up and down.

Repeated threats undermining military discipline

The situation did not end there. When B reported the incident to Sergeant C, A was instructed to move to the administration office by C.

During the transfer, A approached B and attempted to silence him, but when B rejected this, A threatened, "Just wait until you’re discharged."

Even after arriving at the administration office, A's threats continued, and upon seeing B report the situation to C, A threatened again, "Just wait until you’re really discharged."

In the ruling, Judge Park Dong-wook stated, "Given the circumstances and content of the threats, the nature of the crime is not good," and explained the sentencing rationale by considering A's history of having received multiple juvenile protection orders and punishments for other crimes.
