Notably, Kim Song-hee, a citizen who fought against the martial law troops during the 5.18 Gwangju Democratic Uprising and a bereaved family member who lost her brother to the troops' gunfire, has been appointed as the chair of the support group.

Kim traveled to Seoul to guard the National Assembly after leaving her son with the words, "If you don't hear from me by tomorrow morning, assume I’m dead," during the emergency martial law period on December 3rd last year. She has also remained vigilant in the plaza after the martial law was lifted.

The support group explained Kim's appointment as representing the participants' determination to break the convention of appointing prominent figures as chairs and to create a support group led by the citizens who protected the Republic of Korea.
