Kim Moon-soo and Han Duck-soo's Unity Meeting Ends Without Agreement
Korea’s ruling People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo and independent presidential hopeful Han Duck-soo held a meeting on the 7th to discuss candidate unification, but it concluded without any agreement.
On that day at 6 PM, the two candidates had a private meeting without any aides for about 1 hour and 15 minutes at a restaurant in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
After the meeting, Han's spokesperson Lee Jung-hyun stated, "There were no specific agreements," adding, "Our principle of unification and our goal to change politics to revive the economy remain unchanged." This indicates that, contrary to the expectations prior to the meeting, there was no progress on a concrete unification plan.

Kim also mentioned, "There was no meaningful progress. I regret that," expressing his disappointment. He explained, "During dinner with Candidate Han, I shared my thoughts on a unification plan. However, Candidate Han firmly and repeatedly stated that he remains 'as he expressed in the emergency press conference (just before the meeting) and that everything regarding unification is left to the party,' which led to a lack of progress."
Everything is left to the party
This meeting was expected to be an important step towards opposition unification, but it ended without narrowing the gap between the two sides. Notably, Han Duck-soo maintained his stance of delegating decision-making authority on unification to the party, which seemed to hinder any substantive discussions.
It is also reported that the two candidates did not make any specific agreements for a future meeting during this gathering, leaving the direction of future unification discussions uncertain.
