On the 13th, the Japan Record Association announced the winners of the ’38th Japan Golden Disc Awards’. NewJeans won awards in two categories within the Asia section.

Firstly, NewJeans was selected for the ‘Best 3 New Artists’ in the Asia section. Their hit song ‘OMG’ secured the trophy for ‘Song of the Year by Streaming’ in Asia.

The ‘Japan Golden Disc Awards’ is an award ceremony hosted by the Japan Record Association to honor artists and works that have contributed to the development of the record industry. Winners in each category are selected based on the sales performance of albums and music videos released within the year, including streaming performance.

NewJeans expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are thankful that many people have shared various moments with ‘OMG’. We hope that NewJeans’ music will continue to remain in your memories. We will work hard to present better music.”

With this, NewJeans has garnered a total of five trophies at Japan’s prestigious music award ceremonies. Last year, they received the ‘Excellence Award’ and ‘Special Award’ at the ‘Japan Record Awards’ and the ‘Best Buzz Award’ at ‘MTV VMAJ 2023’.

NewJeans’ popularity is proven by their achievements in Japan last year. They received ‘Platinum’ certification for streaming (over 100 million times) for three songs (‘Ditto’, ‘OMG’, ‘Hype Boy’) from the Japan Record Association.

‘Ditto’ and ‘OMG’ achieved 100 million cumulative streams on Oricon. They also ranked highest among K-pop artists in various categories of the annual charts released by Oricon and Billboard Japan for 2023.
