'Dr. Bird' Yoon Moo-bu, Emeritus Professor at Kyung Hee University, Passes Away at 84

Yoon Moo-bu, an emeritus professor of biology at Kyung Hee University widely known to the public as 'Dr. Bird,' passed away at 12:01 AM on the 15th at Kyung Hee Medical Center.

Professor Yoon suffered a stroke in 2006 but successfully underwent rehabilitation. However, he relapsed last June and continued his fight against illness at Kyung Hee Medical Center until his passing.

Born in Jangseungpo-eup, Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, Professor Yoon graduated from Kyung Hee University's Department of Biology and its graduate school. From 1979 to 2006, he dedicated himself to nurturing future generations in the biology department at Kyung Hee University, and served as an emeritus professor from 2006 to 2014.

Active in Academia and Broadcasting

Professor Yoon was also active in various academic endeavors. He served as a director of the Korean Zoological Society in 1990, a director of the Korean Ecological Society in 1993, and as an advisory committee member for the Korea National Park Service. From 1994 to 2001, he was an advisory committee member for the Han River Management Office, a specialist at the Ministry of Culture and Sports' Cultural Heritage Committee (1994-1995), an advisory member of the Interior Ministry's National Park Advisory Committee, and an advisory member for the Environmental Protection Committee of Seoul City. Additionally, he served as a UN Peace Ambassador in 2001.

To the public, Professor Yoon was more familiar as a commentary member on KBS's 'Quiz Exploration: The Mysterious World.' He gained the nickname 'Dr. Bird' by explaining bird ecology in an easy and entertaining way across various entertainment programs. His friendly image was also utilized in several advertisements.

The funeral of Professor Yoon Moo-bu will be held in Room 203 at the Kyung Hee Medical Center Funeral Hall, with the funeral proceedings scheduled for the 17th. The burial site is Byeokgrida. He is survived by his wife, one son, one daughter, a daughter-in-law, and a son-in-law.
