A large ‘sinkhole’ occurred at a construction site near Naksan Beach in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do, and the building collapsed in an instant.
According to Yangyang County and Yangyang Fire Station on August 3, a large sinkhole measuring 12 meters in width, 8 meters in length and 3 meters in depth occurred at the construction site of a new accommodation facility located near Naksan Beach in Ganghyeon-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do around 6:40 am on the same day.
Half of the nearby convenience store buildings collapsed in the accident.
There was also an emergency evacuation of 96 guests from nearby accommodation facilities, but fortunately no injuries were reported.
Currently, the police and fire department control the site of the sinkhole, and together with the Yangyang-gun Water and Sewerage Office, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, etc., the cause of the accident is identified and restoration work is in progress.
It is known that the area where the accident occurred is not only this time, but also several sinkholes since the beginning of this year.
Convenience store owner A, who had an accident where the building collapsed in a large sinkhole, said, “I heard a ‘bang’ while organizing things in the morning, and when I came out, there was a hole in the back of the convenience store building.” “After that, the building collapsed immediately. It came down,” he said, explaining the tense situation at the time.
