Mother sells her 3-month-old daughter for 1 million won, sentenced to prison
A 36-year-old mother, referred to as A, was sentenced to prison and taken into custody by the court for selling her 3-month-old daughter for 1 million won in cash.
On the 25th, the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 2, led by Judge Kim Yeon-kyung, sentenced A to one year in prison for the crime of child trafficking (violation of the Child Welfare Act).

A was indicted without detention on charges of selling her 3-month-old third daughter for 1 million won in cash to an unidentified individual in July 2012.
Shortly after giving birth, A placed her daughter in an infant shelter, stating that she could not raise the child, and reportedly sought a buyer along with the child's biological father to sell the baby.
In particular, A pretended to take the child home from the shelter, even signing a pledge to "fulfill her parental duties," but it was revealed that she handed the child over to the buyer immediately at the facility's main gate.

Child trafficking crime revealed after 13 years
A's crime came to light during a thorough investigation of 'unreported births' despite existing birth records.

The investigation revealed that A had given birth to a total of three children, including the victimized child; her first child was put up for adoption, and the second was left with her parental home.
The court stated, "Even considering that A appears to have given birth at a young age and in an unprepared state, we cannot overlook the defendant's repeated abandonment of her child, which violates natural law."
However, the court explained that the sentencing was influenced by the fact that this incident occurred approximately 13 years ago, resulting in a loss of timeliness in punishment.
During the process of being taken into custody, A pleaded for leniency, stating, "My second child is home alone," but the court did not accept her plea, responding, "Just send her back to the parental home."
