JTBC's "Monstrous" (written by Kim Soo-jin, directed by Shim Na-yeon and Choi Ji-young) is being reborn as a Japanese drama. The production company SLL announced on the 23rd, "Monstrous is being remade in Japan. It will first air in July on the Japanese satellite broadcasting channel WOWOW."
"Monstrous" is a crime thriller that ended in April 2021. It tells the story of detectives in pursuit of the truth. The series was nominated for three Baeksang Arts Awards (Best Drama, Best Screenplay, Best Actor).
WOWOW proposed the remake, leading to its development. The main narrative will remain faithful to the original, while incorporating local sentiments for a fresh reinterpretation.
Casting is of utmost importance. In the original, Shin Ha-kyun and Yeojin Gu showcased impressive chemistry. The Japanese version will feature actors Yasuda Ken and Mizukami Koushi among others.
An SLL representative stated, "This collaboration exemplifies the global expansion potential of story-driven IP," and added, "As the original creators, we will enhance the quality of the work."
