A worker dies in the coal mine collapse in Samcheok, Gangwon Province

A tragic incident occurred at a coal mine in Dogye-eup, Samcheok City, Gangwon Province, where a worker was buried during night work.

At around 3:05 a.m. on the 17th, it was confirmed that a worker, A (57), became trapped and isolated approximately 3 kilometers underground while working in the mine.

After the incident, the mining company quickly dispatched about 30 members of its rescue team to carry out rescue operations. They discovered A after about two hours; however, he was already in cardiac arrest. The rescue team immediately transported A to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he passed away.

The cause of the accident is under investigation… Believed to have been buried by 'mortality coal' that suddenly poured down

The police believe that the accident occurred when 'mortality coal', a mixture of coal and water, suddenly collapsed during the coal extraction process. A detailed investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident is currently underway.

The mining company usually operates with 100 workers on a rotating shift, each working 8 hours. This incident is especially tragic as it occurred during night work.
