70-Year-Old Man Dies After Assault by Middle School Student in Jeolla-Namdo… Family Appeals for Justice
The family of a 70-year-old man who died after being assaulted by a middle school student in a rural village in Jeolla-Namdo has expressed their grievances and sought help through online communities.
The family is requesting the reapplication of an arrest warrant for the perpetrator and a change of the charge to murder.
On the 5th, the family member A posted a message titled "Help!!! Jeolla-Namdo Mu-an 3rd Year Middle School Assault Murder Case" on the online community 'Bobaedream' along with a photo of the deceased from his lifetime.
In the released photo, the deceased was seen lying on a hospital bed. With a bandage on his head, he was in an unconscious state.
A stated, "This is a petition regarding my father’s case. Please read it and participate just once to help alleviate my father's grievances."

The petition details the request for the reapplication of an arrest warrant for the perpetrator and a change of the charge to murder.
The deceased's daughter expressed her sorrow, saying, "My father suffered intentional assault from the perpetrator, resulting in a subdural hematoma and skull fractures, and he died without ever regaining consciousness. He was attacked by the grandson of the neighbor whom he had helped all his life."
The family particularly claims that the perpetrator struck the deceased's face wearing gloves and in a kickboxing stance, causing him to fall. They also revealed that the perpetrator and his mother made a false report to emergency services, claiming they found a person collapsed in front of their house, in an effort to conceal their wrongdoing.
Another source of anger for the family is that the perpetrator has been attending high school normally and has shown no signs of remorse, making statements to local residents like "We are also victims" and "He was bound to die anyway."
The daughter further stated, "They are obscuring the essence of the incident so that my mother cannot continue living in the neighborhood. My mother is visiting a psychiatrist, enduring mental and financial distress. I earnestly request the quick reapplication of the arrest warrant and the change of the charge to alleviate my father’s unjust death."
The incident occurred on October 13 of last year in Pyongsan-ri, Hyunkyung-myeon, Mu-an County, Jeolla-Namdo. At the time, the middle school student B assaulted the 70-year-old man who was arguing with his mother, leading to the man’s death.
The police applied for an arrest warrant for B, but the court rejected it, citing a lack of concerns about evidence destruction and flight.
