Middle School Assault Incident in Changwon, Female Teacher Sustains Serious Injuries Requiring 12 Weeks of Recovery

At a middle school in Changwon, Gyeongnam, a third-grade male student assaulted a female teacher who was providing guidance, resulting in serious injuries that require 12 weeks of recovery.

According to the Gyeongnam Office of Education on the 22nd, on the 19th at around 1 PM, in a first-grade classroom at the Changwon middle school, third-grade student A pushed teacher B, who is in her 50s, causing severe injury.

The incident occurred during lunchtime when A entered the first-grade classroom without permission. Teacher B, the homeroom teacher of that class, questioned A about the reason for his entry, at which point A reportedly assaulted her.

As a result of this assault, teacher B suffered significant injuries to her back and was immediately transported to the hospital by 119 emergency services. It has been confirmed that she has been diagnosed with a serious injury requiring 12 weeks of recovery and is currently receiving treatment as an inpatient.

School and Education Office Response Measures

The school responded promptly immediately after the incident.

They quickly separated A and identified the circumstances of the incident through consultation with the student's parents. Additionally, they reported the incident as a serious infringement of educational activities to the education support office by phone on the same day and submitted an infringement report.

A representative from the Gyeongnam Office of Education stated, "A report has been received at the Education Support Office regarding the protection of teachers' rights, and we are providing emergency protection measures and support for the affected teacher." He added, "We will closely support necessary education, treatment, and assistance for the student, the teacher, and the school students."

Meanwhile, a representative from the Women and Youth Division of the Changwon Central Police Station said, "We have not yet received notification regarding the incident," and "If the case is registered or we receive notification from the Education Office, we will review the matter."
