The movie 'Mickey17' (directed by Bong Joon-ho) ended its theatrical run just a month after its release. It was unable to surpass the break-even point and is now headed to streaming platforms.

The performance in North America was disappointing from the start. 'Mickey17' premiered on March 7 in 3,807 theaters across North America, recording a ticket sales revenue of $19 million (approximately 27.9 billion KRW) on its opening day. Over the course of a month, it only managed to earn $45.2 million (approximately 66.4 billion KRW).

The film also underperformed in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, grossing a total of $31.29 million (approximately 45.9 billion KRW). The United Kingdom contributed $8.49 million (approximately 12.4 billion KRW), France $7.91 million (approximately 11.6 billion KRW), and Germany $4.27 million (approximately 6.2 billion KRW).

In Asia, the total earnings reached $29.6 million (approximately 43.4 billion KRW). In Korea, the cumulative audience count reached 2,993,872 according to the integrated ticketing system as of the 6th. The total revenue stands at around 29.6 billion KRW.

Significant losses are expected. 'Mickey17' had a production budget of $118 million (approximately 170 billion KRW). Additionally, the investing distributor, Warner Bros., spent $80 million (approximately 116.9 billion KRW) on marketing.

However, the total global revenue recorded so far is merely around $143 million, which is equivalent to about 209 billion KRW. The break-even point for 'Mickey17' is estimated to be around $300 million (approximately 440.8 billion KRW).

The American media outlet 'Variety' reported last month, "The final loss amount for 'Mickey17' is estimated to reach up to $80 million (approximately 117 billion KRW)," noting, "While some losses may be offset by sales on streaming platforms, it appears challenging for the film to transition into actual profitability."

'Mickey17' will be available on streaming platforms worldwide starting from the 7th. It will be offered on platforms such as Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango, and Max. In Korea, it will also be accessible through VOD services.

Meanwhile, 'Mickey17' is the latest work by director Bong Joon-ho. It tells the story of a replicated human who repeatedly faces death while undertaking a mission to colonize a distant planet. Hollywood star Robert Pattinson plays the lead role.

The film received lower ratings compared to its predecessor. On the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, it scored 77 from critics and 73 from audiences. In comparison, the previous film 'Parasite' received a critic score of 99 and an audience score of 95, marking a significant decline.
