Stabbing Threat Incident in the Heart of the City

A man who suddenly burst into the kitchen of a bar and threatened passersby with a kitchen tool was apprehended by the police. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight in the center of the city, was resolved without significant harm due to the swift response of the responding officers.

On the 18th, TV Chosun and others reported that a man who stole kitchen utensils from a pub threatened pedestrians and was caught by the prompt actions of the police officers who arrived on the scene.

According to the media, during the incident, a man entered a bar that was preparing to open and demanded, "Give me the kitchen tools." Despite the owner's refusal, the man forcefully entered the kitchen and took a 28 cm long sharp tool.

The initial reporter, Mr. Hwang, explained the situation at the time, saying, "I told him we couldn't lend it to him, but he just walked into the kitchen and took one."

Crisis Situation Resolved with Police's Swift Response

The man, holding the kitchen tool, went out onto the street and threatened passersby with the sharp object. In particular, as two foreigners were caught off guard in front of him, the police officers arrived at the scene.

After confirming the weapon, an officer took out a baton, approached the man, and swiftly struck his wrist, causing the weapon to fall to the ground. The officer then confirmed whether the man possessed any additional weapons by conducting a body search.

The police subdued the man about 120 meters away from the pub and conducted a search for any additional weapons.

A witness at the time testified, "Several police officers were there. One officer was subduing him, and they took everything out of his bag." The time from the 112 emergency call to the arrest was just 12 minutes.

Team Leader Seo Young-kyu from the Chungmu Police Station explained the risks of the situation at the time, stating, "Because he was agitated, I thought that if things went wrong, the victims could get hurt."

The police confirmed that the man had a mental illness and took him for emergency hospitalization. He was then sent to the prosecution on charges of theft and special intimidation.
