A man in his 50s, who indiscriminately assaulted a bar female employee, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder.
The Jeju District Court has handed down a heavy sentence to a man in his 50s who was arrested and indicted for attempted murder after violently assaulting a female employee at a bar.
According to the legal community on the 28th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Jeju District Court (Chief Judge Im Jae-nam) sentenced Mr. A to 20 years in prison for attempted murder and ordered him to wear an electronic location tracking device for 20 years.
The court stated, "Based on objective evidence, it appears that the defendant judged at the time that he wouldn't care if the victim died," adding, "Murder is a serious crime that deprives individuals of life, which is the most valuable asset; therefore, even if it was attempted, it must be strictly punished."

Additionally, it was added that "the risk of recidivism is high, making long-term social isolation unavoidable."

Mr. A is accused of attempting to murder female employee B by violently assaulting her while she was cleaning the bathroom at a bar in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, around 2 p.m. on March 3rd.
At that time, Mr. A repeatedly struck the victim on the head with his fists and used a 14 kg jar to choke her, committing acts of brutal violence.

As a result of this assault, the victim suffered severe injuries, including facial fractures and permanent nerve damage. Ms. B had to be treated in the intensive care unit and is reportedly still undergoing outpatient treatment.

After the victim lost consciousness, Mr. A believed she was dead and fled the scene by closing the bathroom door while wearing rubber gloves he found nearby.

Mr. A had committed this crime just one month after serving a three-year prison sentence for habitual assault, and it was confirmed that he had previously been sentenced to 12 years in prison for charges including robbery and rape.
