Man in his 40s involved in ‘Son Heung-min pregnancy threat’ denied bail申请

Son Heung-min Extortion Case Court Ruling

One individual among those who demanded a large sum of money from national soccer team captain Son Heung-min (33·Los Angeles FC), claiming to be pregnant with his child, has requested a non-custodial trial, but the court rejected this request.

On the 11th, Judge Lim Jeong-bin of the 20th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the bail request from Yoon Mo (40), who is facing extortion charges.

Judge Lim stated that the reason for the dismissal was the "risk of the defendant fleeing."

The bail system allows for the release of detained defendants under specific conditions, either by posting a security deposit or having a guarantor. The court determined that Yoon did not meet these conditions.

Background of the Son Heung-min Threat Case

This case began when Yang Mo (28), who was in a romantic relationship with Son Heung-min, sent ultrasound images of a fetus last June, claiming to be pregnant, and extorted 300 million won.

Yang is reported to have spent the extorted amount on luxury goods, leading to financial difficulties, and later attempted to extort additional money through Yoon, who became her partner.

Yoon is accused of further demanding 70 million won between March and May, threatening to reveal information about the alleged pregnancy and abortion.

Their extortion attempt has garnered public interest as a crime targeting a sports star.

During the first trial held on the 17th of last month, Yoon's side acknowledged all the charges against them.

In contrast, Yang’s side denied the charges of conspiracy and attempted extortion but stated that they would "express their position later" regarding the initial accusation of extorting 300 million won from Son Heung-min. As a result, the court decided to separate the trials of the two defendants.
