Lady Gaga has hinted at an intense performance and striking visuals for the upcoming movie "Joker: Folie à Deux" (directed by Todd Phillips).
Warner Bros. Korea released new stills from "Joker: Folie à Deux" on the 5th, teasing Lady Gaga's dramatic transformation and performance, suggesting the birth of a new 'Harley Quinn.'
"Joker: Folie à Deux" is the sequel to "Joker." The previous film grossed over 1 billion dollars worldwide (approximately 1 trillion KRW). Lady Gaga will portray Harley Quinn, while Joaquin Phoenix returns as the Joker.
Lady Gaga's portrayal of Harley Quinn is highly anticipated. Especially noteworthy is her creation of a character that is the exact opposite of the quirky 'Harley Quinn' from the DC Comics universe. The striking visuals in the stills also stand out.
The director and casting director hinted, "The elements of Harley Quinn as we know her will be absent. This is a newly reborn Harley Quinn, delivering an unforgettable performance on screen."
Lady Gaga has already proven her acting talent in her debut film "A Star is Born" (nominated for Best Actress at the 91st Academy Awards) and "House of Gucci" (Best Actress at the 86th New York Film Critics Circle Awards).
An official stated, "Look forward to Lady Gaga's intense performance. The frenzied synergy with Joaquin Phoenix will evoke powerful chills among the audience."
The return of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker is also a key highlight. He swept the awards for "Joker," including the Academy Awards, Critics' Choice Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. Additionally, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine Keener will join the cast.
Director Todd Phillips, who gained recognition with "Joker," helms the project. The film will capture a new story of 'Joker' and 'Harley Quinn' with a different atmosphere and genre appeal compared to the previous installment.
The movie has already gained attention from international film festivals, being consecutively invited to the competition section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival. Notably, "Joker" had previously won the Golden Lion, the top prize, at the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
The movie is scheduled to be released next month.
