A documentary about author Han Kang is coming. MBC announced on the 16th, "To commemorate Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature, a special documentary 'Han Kang is Coming' will be broadcast at 10:50 PM tonight." On the 11th (Korean time), Han Kang became the first Korean to win the Nobel Prize in Literature at the "2024 Nobel Prize Awards Ceremony" held in Stockholm, Sweden.
At the same time, in Korea, the impact of President Yoon Seok-yeol's martial law situation spread widely. A major civil uprising led to the National Assembly's impeachment decision. Coincidentally, her notable works "The Boy is Coming" and "No Goodbye" are set against the backdrop of martial law in Gwangju (1980) and Jeju (1948), respectively. These novels dealing with civilian massacres and the stories of surviving victims have captured global attention while the realization of martial law draws notice.
Han Kang faced related questions at an official press conference. She explained, "The whole scenario was broadcast live for everyone to watch." The demeanor of the police and soldiers was especially striking. She noted, "I sensed an internal conflict, as if they were moving as passively as possible."
Additionally, this documentary will cover evaluations from domestic and international experts on Han Kang and her literary world, and the prestige of the Nobel Prize in Literature. Meanwhile, "Han Kang is Coming" can be watched on MBC at 10:50 PM on the same day.
