Lee Nak-yon, Unable to Secure Support Rates, Ultimately Gives Up on Presidential Election… “I Won’t Support Other Candidates Either”

Lee Nak-yon, Chief Advisor, Declares Not Running for Presidential Election… "There's Little I Can Do Amid the Extreme Politics of the Two Major Parties"

Lee Nak-yon, Chief Advisor of the New Future Democratic Party, made a sudden announcement on the 10th, declaring that he will not run in the upcoming presidential election.

This reversal comes just two weeks after he officially declared his candidacy on the 28th of last month.

The Chief Advisor explained his reason for not running, stating, "In this chaotic era where the extreme politics of the two major parties are driving each other mad, I have deeply realized that there is little I can accomplish through an election."

He said, "After careful consideration, I have decided not to participate in this presidential election." Notably, he emphasized, "I will not assist anyone else's campaign."

Speculation had arisen that he might join the 'anti-Yoon big tent' following a meeting with Han Duck-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, mediated by constitutional amendment; however, after observing the sudden replacement of the party's candidate overnight, it appears he made the decision to distance himself from the entire political arena.

Decision to Distance Himself from the Entire Political Landscape

He also voiced strong criticism towards the People Power Party, stating, "I do not wish to say anything about the People Power Party, which still hasn't regained its senses."

However, he clarified that this does not mean he intends to cease political activities entirely. The Chief Advisor asserted, "I will continue to warn about the crises facing the Republic of Korea and propose alternatives such as constitutional amendments, just as I have until now." He emphasized, "Even if I am lonely, I will cry out for justice for the nation until the day I die."
