Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu (65) has been booked by police on charges of drug driving.

The Seoul Gangnam Police summoned Lee Kyung-kyu as a suspect on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act on the 24th. The investigation lasted approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, taking place from 9 PM to 10:45 PM.

Police questioned Lee regarding the circumstances of drug use and the situation during his driving. He is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, around 2 PM on the 8th.

He was reported for suspected theft while driving someone else’s car. A roadside drug test conducted by the police showed a positive result. The National Forensic Service also confirmed a positive result.

After the investigation, Lee addressed the press, stating, "I didn't really recognize that I shouldn’t drive while taking medication for panic disorder. I will be more careful in the future," bowing his head.

Regarding driving someone else's vehicle, he explained, "I had my car keys in my hand, and the keys to the vehicle I was driving were inside the car, which is why the engine started," and added, "I apologize for disappointing my fans."

A lawyer present explained, "(Lee Kyung-kyu) has been suffering from panic disorder for 10 years. He took prescribed medication the day before the incident, but his physical condition worsened, which is why he drove himself to the hospital," calling it "carelessness with no excuses."

Article 45 of the Road Traffic Act prohibits driving in a state where there is a risk of not being able to drive normally due to the influence of drugs. The police plan to analyze Lee's statements before deciding on the course of action.
