Lee Jae-myung Candidate mourns the late Comfort Women victim, the late Lee Ok-sun

Lee Jae-myung, the candidate of the Democratic Party, mourned the late Comfort Women victim, Lee Ok-sun, who passed away on the 11th.

On this day, he posted a memorial message on his Facebook with the title, "My condolences to Grandma Lee Ok-sun. I will not forget her wishes."

He began by stating, "It has been less than three months since we bid farewell to the late Grandma Gil Won-ok, and now we are saying goodbye to another person, so I cannot contain my sorrow."

He continued, "This grandmother became a victim of the Japanese military Comfort Women at the age of 14. She was forced to be taken to a foreign land without understanding what was happening, and it was only in 2000 that she could step on her homeland." He added, "Her active involvement in the human rights movement to resolve the Comfort Women issue must have been a struggle to correct the distorted history."

He emphasized, "Now, there are only six surviving victims. The fact that 234 out of the 240 courageous victims who opened the door to the world have already passed away reminds us of the urgency of time." He underscored, "We owe a great debt to those who illuminated the pain of state violence and women's human rights, yet we have yet to achieve full restoration of their honor."

Candidate Lee stated, "This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation on August 15 and the 60th anniversary of the Korea-Japan Treaty," stressing, "We must fully uphold the core values of restoring the honor of the victimized grandmothers and uncovering historical truths."

He also declared, "I will strive to remember the unfulfilled wishes of the victimized grandmothers and work harder for the clarification of historical facts, restoration of honor, and support for the victims."
