Lee Jae-myung’s ‘Security Team’: The Impressive Credentials of a Female Police Officer Who Was Selected as a Taekwondo National Team Member Three Times in a Row

Candidate Lee Jae-myung's Security Team Includes Female Police Officer from Taekwondo National Team

There is a woman who has been selected three times in a row to be part of the police security team responsible for the close protection of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.

According to a report by Kukmin Ilbo on the 12th, it has been confirmed that Officer A, a former female national Taekwondo athlete, has been assigned to the police security team responsible for the close protection of the candidate.

Officer A has been responsible for the candidate's security during the 20th presidential election in 2021, the April general elections last year, and now during this June 3rd presidential election.

She is reported to have entered the police force through a special recruitment program for martial arts, as she is a former national Taekwondo athlete.

Officer A is taking charge of the candidate's safety along with Chief B, who oversees the security operations, coordinating their efforts again for this election after having done so during the 2022 presidential elections.

It is known that specific police officers providing continuous close protection for a single candidate is very rare.

An official from the National Police Agency's Security Bureau explained to the media that "Officer A is a unique case" and noted that "there are rare occasions when the candidate's team offers opinions during the personnel placement process."

"She is known for her lively personality and outstanding on-site command abilities… likely to interact with citizens in plain clothes"

According to sources within the Democratic Party, Officer A is known for her energetic personality and excellent on-site command skills.

Another Democratic Party official mentioned that "as Chief B is a robust male officer from the military special forces, Officer A, with her relatively gentle image, is expected to interact with citizens in plain clothes while ensuring safety and carrying out her duties."

Thus, within the security team, it appears that they are dividing their tasks based on each member's characteristics and expertise.

The combination of Officer A's martial arts skills from her Taekwondo experience and Chief B's special forces background is working together to ensure the safety of candidate Lee Jae-myung.
