Lee Jae-myung Successfully Secures Postponement of Remand Retrial… Applies for Date Change in Daejang-dong and Perjury Coaching Trial

Lee Jae-myung Applies for Change of Trial Dates in Daejang-dong and Perjury Cases

Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, has applied to change the trial dates in connection with the Daejang-dong development corruption case and the perjury coaching case, following the remand trial for violations of the Public Official Election Act.

According to legal sources, his side submitted requests to postpone the trial dates to the 3rd Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court and the 33rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court.

This is interpreted as an intention to delay the trials, as the official election campaign period begins ahead of the presidential election on June 3.

As of now, the court's decision has not been announced. The Democratic Party stated at a recent press conference, "We hope that the trial dates for all presidential candidates will be changed to after the election."

Lee is scheduled to attend at least three trials before the election. He is involved in a total of five trials related to eight cases, including the remand trial for the election law violation, the second trial for perjury coaching, as well as first trials for the Daejang-dong, Wirye, Baekhyeon-dong, and Seongnam FC cases.

In particular, the Daejang-dong development corruption trial is scheduled for hearings on this day, as well as on the 13th and 27th of this month, and the appeal trial for the perjury coaching charge is set for the 20th, meaning that if the dates are not changed, he must attend trials until a week before the election.

Meanwhile, the remand trial for the election law violation has been postponed from the previously scheduled first hearing date of the 15th to June 18th.

The 7th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court explained, "The trial date was changed to after the presidential election to ensure equal opportunities for the presidential candidate and to eliminate controversy over the fairness of the trial." They also emphasized that "the remand trial will be conducted independently and fairly in accordance with the Constitution and the law," without external interference.
