Lee Jae-myung Holds Meeting with Content Creators to Discuss the Future of K-Content Industry

Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, will hold a 'K-Content Industry Promotion Meeting' on the 7th at 1 PM at the cafe 'House of B' in Jeonju Hanok Village, Jeollabuk-do, to explore the development direction of the domestic content industry in collaboration with cultural and artistic figures such as film directors and drama writers.

This meeting, themed 'The Future Screen Painted by Movies, Dramas, and Politics,' is designed to diagnose the current reality of the domestic content industry, which has recently faced crises, and seek solutions to overcome them.

Prominent creators such as director Yoon Je-kyoon, known for 'International Market' and 'Haeundae,' director Jung Joo-ri of the film 'Next So-hee,' writer Kim Eun-sook of dramas 'The Glory' and 'Goblin,' and writer Park Hae-young of 'My Mister' and 'My Liberation Journal' will attend the meeting. They are expected to share their experiences and opinions on the challenges currently faced by the content industry and discuss potential solutions.

The Democratic Party's election committee stated, "Recently, K-content such as the drama 'The Glory' and 'Surprisingly, It's True' has gained great love not only domestically but also globally, enhancing its status," while also pointing out that "there are signs of crisis underneath this success."

In particular, it emphasized, "The film industry is facing a complex crisis, including a decline in audience numbers, production shrinkage, and decreased revenue." It noted that among the publicly listed film and drama production companies in the domestic stock market, more than half recorded operating losses last year, and the burden of increased production costs has led to a more than 20% decrease in the number of productions.

It also stated that "Candidate Lee plans to share commonalities between politics and creation and listen to the difficulties faced by content creators during the meeting."

Furthermore, it plans to discuss the future of building a cultural powerhouse, 대한민국.

Previously, Candidate Lee announced pledges in the cultural arts sector with the goal of 'soaring as a Soft Power BIG5 cultural powerhouse,' promising to strengthen national support for the entire K-content creation process, including fostering creation platforms and expanding production infrastructure.

He also emphasized the need for policy support for the sustainable growth of the content industry and the establishment of a systemic foundation for the protection of content creators' rights. Candidate Lee explained that these policies would enhance the competitiveness of the K-content industry and contribute to expanding the influence of Korean culture on the international stage.
