Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, has called on medical students who have not returned to classes to come back to the educational field.

On the 6th, the candidate posted on social media, “Medical students, please come back to the medical education scene. Come back and hold your positions. That is how we can start. Leave the tough fight to me, and continue your studies. Please prepare to protect the lives of the people.”

He continued, "All this chaos stems from the mistakes of the Yoon Suk-yeol government. The push for an increase of 2,000 medical school seats without scientific evidence or the necessary preparations in the medical education field began the problem,” pointing out the responsibility of the Yoon Suk-yeol government.

“As a result, the greatest pain and anxiety have fallen back on the people and you medical students,” he added.

He criticized further, stating, “Numerous surgeries have been delayed, emergency rooms have stopped, and the time that you dreamed of saving lives has also come to a halt, yet those responsible, including Vice Minister Park Min-soo, are not bearing any responsibility. They are still holding their positions. This is unacceptable.”

He proposed alternatives for medical reform, such as holding responsible parties accountable, establishing a rational payment system, improving the medical delivery system, and enhancing the training environment for interns.

Additionally, the candidate promised to introduce essential medical policies based on sufficient social consensus, emphasizing, “This is not just a task for medical students but a national task that must be solved for the future of our healthcare.”

Furthermore, he urged Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party, saying, “Let’s ensure that the promises for the normalization of healthcare are kept together,” asserting, “This is the minimum responsibility that politics must fulfill before the people.”

However, he emphasized again, “Before that, medical students must come back and hold their positions. If I am granted the responsibilities and powers, I will certainly keep the promises. I await your wise decision.”
