Following the SIM card (USIM) information theft incident involving SK Telecom subscribers, an unauthorized mobile phone activation and a withdrawal of tens of millions of won from a bank account occurred in Busan, prompting police to launch an investigation.
On the 28th, the Busan Southern Police Agency reported that they received a complaint from SK Telecom user A (in their 60s) regarding this matter.

Mobile Phone Becomes Inaccessible, Unofficial Mobile Phone Activation… 50 Million Won Transferred
According to A, on the 22nd, their SK Telecom mobile phone was unexpectedly deactivated, and they discovered that a new KT budget phone line had been activated in their name. When their mobile phone became unusable, they visited a retail store and learned about the unauthorized activation during the inquiry.
The problem arose when A noticed that 10 million won had been transferred to an unknown person five times, totaling 50 million won from their bank account during this process.
Aware of the situation, A's children reported the incident to the police on the 24th and simultaneously requested a payment freeze from the bank to prevent further losses.

A police official stated, "We are in the early stages of the investigation, and specific facts have not yet been confirmed," adding, "We plan to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized mobile phone activation along with the bank transaction history."
SK Telecom Claims "No Damage" and Begins Free Replacement of SIM Cards for 25 Million Users
Meanwhile, SK Telecom recently experienced a hacking attack that resulted in a large-scale leak of subscribers' SIM card information. As a response, the company initiated a free SIM card replacement process for all 25 million subscribers.
At a press conference on the 25th, SK Telecom asserted, "There was a hacking incident, but no actual personal information leakage or monetary damage occurred." However, with unauthorized activations and financial losses continuing to emerge, as seen in this Busan case, user anxiety has not easily settled.

The police plan to investigate whether this incident is related to the SK Telecom SIM card information leak.
