Kwon Seong-dong: “We can’t entrust the country to Lee Jae-myung, who is a grave danger… We must unite to win the presidential election.”

Kwon Seong-dong: "I have many regrets about the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss Yoon, but I will humbly accept it."

As the Constitutional Court announced the dismissal of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, expressed his stance.

On the 4th, immediately following the dismissal ruling, Kwon spoke about the early presidential election that will take place within 60 days during a meeting of lawmakers at the National Assembly.

Kwon emphasized, "To achieve victory, we must unite as one," stating, “We cannot entrust the future of the Republic of Korea, which we have protected and cultivated with blood, sweat, and tears, to the dangerously reckless Lee Jae-myung faction."

He continued, "The political clock is constantly ticking. In two months, there will be a presidential election," and added, "Time is tight, but we absolutely cannot back down, and we must not lose this election."

Kwon also declared, "We must join forces with all citizens who seek to protect freedom, democracy, and constitutional order, and with all citizens who desire stability and unity." He continued, "The strongest steel comes from the hottest fire. Let us think of today's pain and trials as a forging process for greater victory. Let us rearm ourselves with strong will and determination and move towards winning the presidential election. Tomorrow, the sun will definitely rise."

He also mentioned the Constitutional Court's dismissal ruling, saying, "I deeply apologize to the people," and added, "As the ruling party that shares joint responsibility for national governance, we are well aware that this responsibility is by no means light. Through today's ruling of the Constitutional Court, we will reflect more deeply and awaken to become a responsible party."

While expressing many regrets about the Court's decision, he stated, "We must respect the current decision," and emphasized, "Only then can our society move from conflict and division towards integration and the future. This is the path of proper politics and a decisive contrast to the Democratic Party, which lives on division and political strife."

Kwon encouraged the party’s lawmakers, stating, "Looking back over the 111 days since the presidential impeachment, we have indeed gone through a very difficult and challenging time." He urged, "In that process, there were differing thoughts and opinions, but now we must shake off all those differences and start anew."

Meanwhile, on that day, the Constitutional Court unanimously upheld the National Assembly's impeachment petition against former President Yoon with all eight justices.

Former President Yoon has now faced the dishonor of being the second president in constitutional history to be dismissed, following Park Geun-hye.
