Nepal Himalaya Trekking: Korean Man Dies
A Korean man in his 60s has died from altitude sickness while trekking in the Annapurna region of the Nepal Himalayas.
According to the foreign affairs authorities, Mr. A showed symptoms of altitude sickness while climbing with acquaintances and a local guide and passed away during the descent. The Korean embassy in Nepal has notified Mr. A's family of the incident and is providing consular assistance for the recovery of the body and funeral arrangements.

The Himalayas are a popular destination for Korean climbers, but risks such as altitude sickness and falls are prevalent. These dangers result in fatalities each year, with similar incidents reported recently.
In November 2023, another Korean climber died at a resort in the northeastern Khumbu region of Nepal.

Altitude sickness is a condition that occurs due to a lack of oxygen at altitudes above 2,500 meters, leading to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and vomiting. Especially in cases of insufficient preparation or physical fitness, it can result in serious consequences. Therefore, experts emphasize the importance of thorough preparation and safety equipment for those planning a trek in the Himalayas.
