Korean man in his 60s, ‘Kim’, arrested in Thailand for attempting to smuggle 18 million won worth of drugs into South Korea

Thai Authorities Arrest Korean and Chinese Drug Offenders

Thai authorities have consecutively arrested Koreans and Chinese individuals on drug-related charges.

They are reported to be facing allegations of drug smuggling and illegal distribution.

According to local media, including Bangkok Post, on the 18th (local time), the Thai immigration police held a press conference and announced that they had recently arrested two foreign drug suspects.

This arrest was made through a joint investigation by the Thai immigration police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), indicating active measures by Thai authorities to combat international drug crimes.

**Status of Foreign Drug Crimes in Thailand**

The first person arrested was a South Korean named Kim (60), who was apprehended in an apartment in Pattaya, Chonburi Province.

Kim was under an Interpol Red Notice for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine (philopon) into South Korea.

According to the Thai police investigation, Kim directed accomplices to conceal approximately 180g of drugs in food containers, which were confirmed to be loaded onto a flight heading to Incheon International Airport.

Local police revealed that if Kim's smuggling attempt had succeeded, the drugs could have fetched up to 18 million won. Additionally, it was discovered that Kim had been illegally residing in Thailand for over two years with an expired visa.

The second arrested individual is a Chinese national named Sun (39). The Thai immigration police raided a house in Huai Yai, southeast of Pattaya, to apprehend Sun.

Facing charges of drug trafficking and the illegal distribution of electronic cigarettes, Sun attempted to flee by climbing onto the roof when the police arrived but was ultimately captured.

Thai police stated that both suspects have been charged under Thai law, and procedures for their expulsion to South Korea and China are currently underway.
