Actor Kim Nam-gil has embarked on a special talent donation by introducing the poet Yoon Dong-ju to the world. Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University announced on the 28th that a multilingual video featuring Yoon Dong-ju, a poet and independence activist, was released in time for the March 1 Independence Movement Day.
The video, which is about five minutes long, was produced in both Korean and English versions. Titled "The Poet We Love, Yoon Dong-ju," it covers the life of Yoon Dong-ju. Kim Nam-gil provided the narration, explaining that although Yoon lived a short life of 27 years, he left a significant mark on Korean literature and the history of the independence movement.
Kim recited Yoon’s notable work, "Foreword," and touched on the emotions contained in Yoon's writings, stating, "The use of beautiful poetic language and nature as a theme adds to the emotional impact." The video also explored Yoon's humanity and the meaning of the peaceful struggle embedded throughout his posthumous poetry collection, honoring his unwavering anti-Japanese spirit until his martyrdom in prison.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Yoon Dong-ju's passing, his appearance during his lifetime was recreated using generative AI, capturing him with a smile.
Professor Seo emphasized the importance of shedding light on forgotten independence activists and widely sharing their lives as a crucial endeavor for our generation.
Meanwhile, the two have been continuing their project to promote awareness of the independence movement. Last year, they jointly produced a video on the "Joseon Nationalist Federation" ahead of Liberation Day.
