The movie “How to Open a Door,” produced and planned by actor Kim Nam-gil, will be screened at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival. This film was made to support young people preparing for independence.
“How to Open a Door” has been confirmed to be screened in the “Youth SEA-NEMA” section of the Community BIFF’s All Day Cinema on the 26th. The film will be shown at 11:00 AM on October 3rd at Megabox Busan Theater. It will also be available at 12:30 PM on the same day and at 1:45 PM on October 4th at the special stage in Nampo-dong BIFF Square.
There will also be a ‘GV Talk with the Audience’. Director Park Ji-wan, Director Heo Ji-ye, Chae Seo-eun, and young adult Park Kang-bin preparing for independence will meet the audience after the first and second screenings.
“How to Open a Door” is a fantasy short film. The protagonist is Hanul, a young adult preparing for independence. One day, the house she prepared for her independence disappears, and she strives to get it back.
Young adults preparing for independence are those who have been under the protection of child care facilities or foster families and have become adults. It refers to young people who start living independently after the protection ends at the age of 18.
As the head of the cultural arts NGO “Gil Story,” Kim Nam-gil aims to help these young people achieve emotional independence through cultural arts. In collaboration with KB Kookmin Bank, he planned and produced the film “How to Open a Door.”
Director Park Ji-wan of “The Day I Died” and Director Heo Ji-ye of “Two Women’s Room” have joined forces. They co-wrote and directed, completing a mysterious and peculiar fantasy world.
The protagonist Hanul is played by Chae Seo-eun. Chae Seo-eun became known to the public through dramas such as “High Cookie,” “Mr. Queen,” and “Forecasting Love and Weather.” Kim Nam-gil and Go Gyu-pil made special appearances to support the project.
Meanwhile, the cultural arts NGO Gil Story is conducting the “Hamnangil” campaign with the support of KB Kookmin Bank. “Hamnangil” provides creative opportunities for young people preparing for independence and supports their artistic activities.
