Actor Kim Nam-gil stepped up to support young adults preparing for independence. The film “How to Open a Door” (directed by Park Ji-wan and Heo Ji-ye) released a making-of video on the 7th. It showcases the production design that brings inventive imagination to reality and the perfect acting chemistry of the cast.
“How to Open a Door” tells the story of a young adult named “Haneul,” who struggles to find a home. It embodies support for young adults preparing for independence. The film was planned and produced by Kim Nam-gil and KB Kookmin Bank. The film presents the situations facing young adults and society’s perspective in a unique way.
Director Park Ji-wan, who co-wrote and directed the film, shared the behind-the-scenes story. Park explained, “As I was contemplating how to portray the story of young adults preparing for independence, I decided on the fantasy genre.” Director Heo Ji-ye visualized this fantasy.
Heo stated, “The images and imaginations of the staff and participants differed, and I focused on bringing them together.”
Chae Seo-eun plays the role of “Haneul,” a young adult preparing for independence. She recalled, “The set was decorated like a fantasy, which made it more immersive and fun to shoot.” The actors’ performances and the lively atmosphere on set were also captured in the video.
Director Heo praised Chae Seo-eun, saying, “She is an actress rich in sensitivity.” Actress Sim So-young played dual roles as a broker and a guide. Director Park commented on Sim So-young, “She set the tone in the unique fantasy genre,” heightening curiosity about her character.
Kim Nam-gil played “Cheolsu,” a childhood friend who suddenly appears as an adult in front of “Haneul,” whose home has disappeared overnight, to give a special mission. He revealed, “It’s a role I’ve never played before.” He sincerely expressed, “I hope that young adults preparing for independence gain a lot of hope, comfort, and courage from watching this film.” “How to Open a Door” will be released at Lotte Cinema on the 20th.
