Actor Kim Mu-yeol has been cast as the protagonist of the drama 'True Education.' The script has been newly adapted to avoid controversy from the original work.

'True Education' is based on a webtoon of the same name and delivers a message about restoring fallen educational authority. It adopts the fictional government agency setting of the Educational Authority Protection Bureau.

Director Hong Jong-chan is in charge of directing. Director Hong has presented works such as Netflix's 'Mr. Plankton,' 'Juvenile Justice,' and tvN's 'Dear My Friends.' He portrays a variety of characters warmly and delicately.

Director Hong stated, "I've encountered prominent incidents in the education field over the past few years," and expressed his desire to talk about "those not protected by the system and those who have exploited it."

He further emphasized, "'True Education' is a story necessary for our times," and highlighted that "it's a work developed earnestly and responsibly for a long time."

Recently, some have strongly criticized the original webtoon for issues like racism and criticism of feminism. The original work went on a three-month hiatus, and its serialization was halted on North American platforms.

The controversy was dismissed, emphasizing that it’s a different work from the original. "We are aware of criticisms and concerns regarding some episodes of the original work," and stated, "We will create with a more refined perspective, with responsibility."

Kim Mu-yeol will play the role of Na Hwa-jin, the inspector of the Educational Authority Protection Bureau. Regarding his reason for joining, he stated, "I read the script adapted for the drama and felt it was a work that allows reflection on educational realities, discrimination, and absurdities."

He also showed trust in Director Hong Jong-chan, stating, "Director Hong confidently handled potentially challenging subjects in his previous work 'Juvenile Justice,' and I have solid trust in his directing skills."

The script is written by writer Lee Nam-gyu, who has delicately portrayed social minorities in works like 'Morning Comes to the Mental Ward' and 'Dazzling.'

Writer Lee Nam-gyu expressed, "I hoped 'True Education' could confront contemporary issues in the educational field," and added, "I earnestly worked in the hope that it could serve as a small catalyst for finding clues to (educational authority) recovery."

'True Education' is scheduled to start filming in the first half of 2025, with programming currently under discussion.
