Former national fencing representatives Kim Jung-hwan and Kim Jun-ho are receiving rave reviews for their commentary (KBS). They not only deliver information but also lead with comfortable vocal delivery and timely reactions.
The Korean men's sabre fencing team defeated Hungary 45-41 in the team final on the 1st. They achieved their third consecutive victory following the 2012 London Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The performance of newcomer Do Kyung-dong shone. Although it was his first appearance in the final, he earned five consecutive points in the 7th round. Kim Jun-ho praised, "He performs better than I did during the Tokyo Olympics."
Caster Choi Seung-don said, "It would be okay for the original Avengers to retire." Commentators Kim Jung-hwan and Kim Jun-ho laughed and said, "Indeed, it seems we made a really good choice."
Particularly, Kim Jun-ho garnered attention for his quick and accurate analysis. He identified whether it was "too late" or "too early" even before the results were out. Viewers praised him as being like an AI commentator.
Netizens exclaimed, "The best commentary for our quick-paced nation," "Accuracy 99.999%," "Not just a commentator or referee but sensor level," and "Analyzes even the referee's expressions."
As senior players, they empathized with the players' struggles. In a situation where just one point was left for the win, Do Kyung-dong couldn't watch the game. Kim Jun-ho shared, "I understand exactly how he feels."
Oh Sang-wook scored the final point, securing the third consecutive victory. Caster Choi Seung-don asked the two commentators, "It's not just any medal; it's a gold medal. Don't you feel dissatisfied?"
Kim Jung-hwan and Kim Jun-ho responded by praising the players. "Not at all. The young players did so well that we feel it was the right decision to step back," they said with genuine joy.
Kim Jung-hwan stated, "Oh Sang-wook is still in his prime. He can compete in two or three more Olympics. Seniors need to pass on what they experienced on big stages to the juniors in the future."
Kim Jun-ho added, "I met Oh Sang-wook by chance before the match. I told him that if he wins the gold medal, I would treat him to seafood. Now that he’s a double champion, I think he should treat me," he laughed.
He also praised Park Sang-won, a player who dominated the first round. Kim Jun-ho emphasized, "His skill seemed to improve with each game."
The team stood atop the highest podium in the Grand Palais. Caster Choi Seung-don concluded, "We hope you enjoy a happy night. Let's prosper even more together with Korean fencing."
Meanwhile, Korean fencing has only the women's sabre team event left on the 3rd. Kim Jung-hwan, Kim Jun-ho, and Choi Seung-don trio will also broadcast that match live.
