Wake One has apologized regarding its trainees who appeared on Mnet's 'Boys Planet.'
On the 21st, Wake One posted a notice titled 'Announcement from Wake One' on its website, correcting facts concerning Kim Gun-woo and Kang Woo-jin from 'Boys Planet.' Contrary to being introduced as individual trainees, they are under Wake One. "Kim Gun-woo applied for and went through the evaluation process for the program before signing a trainee contract with Wake One," it reported.
He was already in preparation to appear as an individual. "It was difficult to participate as a team with the existing Wake One trainees due to scheduling. After discussion, it was decided he would participate individually," it explained.
Regarding Kang Woo-jin, it stated, "He is a trainee at Wake One aiming to become a singer-songwriter," adding, "He has never received specialized idol training."
While Wake One mentioned that the selection was made considering each trainee's individuality and musical concept, it also expressed, "We apologize for causing confusion and concern to the production team, viewers, and fans." They emphasized that all responsibility lies with the agency.
"We believe the challenges of these two trainees should be respected. We will terminate the trainee contracts through discussions with them," it announced.
Addressing various allegations surrounding Kim Gun-woo, Wake One stated, "We did not fully fulfill our duty to protect the agency's interests," warning of legal action against any inaccuracies.
Finally, they said, "We sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and concern this time. We promise to uphold trust with a more cautious and responsible attitude."
Kim Gun-woo and Kang Woo-jin participated as contestants in 'Boys Planet,' which premiered on the 17th. Among them, Kim Gun-woo was the center of the K group, while Kang Woo-jin drew attention for his vocal skills.
Meanwhile, 'Boys Planet' is a debut project for a new K-pop boy group of the fifth generation, airing split into K Group and C Group episodes.
