Kim Geon-hee, currently imprisoned in a detention center, reportedly made a shocking statement: "Isn't it true that my death could open a path for my husband to survive?"
On the 20th, attorney Shin-pyeong, known as a 'mentor' to former President Yoon Seok-yeol, revealed details of a recent meeting with Kim through his Facebook.
According to attorney Shin, as soon as Kim sat down in the meeting room, she said, "Teacher, shouldn’t I die so that a path can be opened for my husband?" showing signs of being deeply preoccupied with such thoughts. Attorney Shin described Kim's appearance, stating, "She has become so emaciated that only her skeletal frame remains."
Kim Geon-hee was detained at the Seoul Southern Detention Center after a warrant was issued for charges of violating the Political Funds Act, the Capital Markets Act, and allegations of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes on the 12th.
She is scheduled to appear before the special prosecutor's team led by Min Jung-ki for her third interrogation post-arrest on the 21st at 2 PM.
Kim Geon-hee's feelings regarding former Representative Han Dong-hoon
During the meeting, Kim also reportedly shared her feelings about former People Power Party Representative Han Dong-hoon.
She expressed, "How could Han Dong-hoon do such a thing?" and further stated, "If he hadn't betrayed me like that, wouldn't infinite glory have awaited him?"
In response, attorney Shin remarked, "Han Dong-hoon is actually a pitiful man. He has fallen into the trap of a hollow career and will live his life as a 'political nomad' with no achievements, living in solitude. He is truly just a waste of life." He advised, "It will be hard, but try to forgive him," and suggested, "Think of his present situation and pathetic future to help you forget him."
Han Dong-hoon classified as one of Yoon's closest aides… "The Crown Prince of the Yoon Seok-yeol Administration"
During his time as a prosecutor, Han was among the closest aides to former President Yoon. There are evaluations that no one was closer to President Yoon than Han. He also had a close relationship with Kim.
He ascended to the position of the first Minister of Justice in the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, skipping the positions of head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and Prosecutor General. Many views consider this a much more unconventional appointment compared to when former Justice Minister Cho Kuk held the position.
The unconventional trend did not end there. In December 2023, despite having no political experience, Han rose to the top of the ruling party. He was appointed as the emergency response chairman of the People Power Party ahead of the 22nd National Assembly elections, an achievement deemed impossible without the influence of former President Yoon.
Subsequently, Han has positioned himself in opposition to President Yoon, with the so-called 'Yoon-Han Conflict' emerging as a key issue within the ruling party. Former Representative Han asserted that Kim's allegations should be resolved before the elections.
During this process, conflicts deepened over issues such as public apology text messages exchanged between Kim and Han, and Han's demands for Kim to suspend her public activities.
